The Drifter Time Trial is the longest-running Far West time trial, and is a proving ground for athletes from Far West, Western REG, collegiate skiers, and masters alike. The best skiers do the time trial every month each summer, tracking their improvement all summer long. Run the race and submit your time to put your name in the Far West annals of history
The uphill run is approximately 1.3 miles, and climbs 900 feet from start to finish. Find and search for historical results below. Scroll down for a map and detailed directions to the start.

Park and begin at the Johnson Canyon trailhead at the Donner Lake Interchange exit from I-80. The course starts approximately 2 miles up the Wendin Way trail, so use that as your warmup! The course begins at a small creek crossing. Once you start, follow the trail all the way up, making a right turn as you crest the ridge and run past the small tree on the right, marking the finish.
Where does the trail for the Drifter Time Trial begin on the Tahoe Donner XC trail map? I know where it ends.
The trail starts at the Johnson Canyon Trailhead, next to I-80 at the Donner Lake exit. Taking Crazy Horse from Skislope would get you to the Drifter Hut, but you would then have to go down Johnson Canyon to get to the Time Trial start. I’ll be posting a map soon!
Just wondering, none of the younger more recent girls are on there like Lily, Alain, Kili, Mera, Kendall, Hannah…
Still getting some results in – Gus will be sending me results shortly that will include those girls!
