Snowshoe Thompson Classic: Race information

Born Jon Torsteinson-Rue, Snowshoe Thompson is regarded as the father of skiing in California. 2-4 times a month for 20 winters, he made the 90 mile journey from Placerville to Genoa, stopped by neither snowdrifts nor blizzards to deliver the mail on his handmade 3-meter long skis. We honor his legacy with the Snowshoe Thompson Classic Virtual Race this week, January 7th-11th!

This is a race is a staple of the race calendar, and you won’t want to miss a chance to participate in the legacy. Head up to Auburn Ski Club, and conquer the freshly-fallen snow to put down your fastest 5km classic time along our Strava segment. Just like Snowshoe Thompson’s epic treks across the Sierra, the inclement weather this week will provide an authentic experience!. Classic track will be set along the entire course.

IMPORTANT: In order to safely host this virtual race, all skiers must fully abide by Auburn Ski Club’s Covid-19 protocols (full list here) This includes wearing your mask or face coverings at all times – when you are in the parking lot, getting ready, and including when you are in the stadium. You may remove your mask when you are skiing out on the trails only. The Training Center buildings will be closed; keep this in mind, as it may be stormy this week.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO. Make sure to check the ASC Trail Report and the calendar before you head up to the club. Due to weather and lack of indoor facilities, the club may close on especially stormy days this week. Additionally, recreational users are not permitted Saturday morning from 8:30 – 1:00 to reduce congestion.

ALSO IMPORTANT: If you are not an ASC Team Member or Season Passholder, you will need to purchase a One Day Guest Trail Pass. ASC has graciously offered this option to be able to include all of our community in this event. Your pass is good for one day only between January 7th and 11th. Purchase your pass here and complete the ASC waiver included in registration BEFORE heading up to the club.
