It was a cold and windy day for the final race of the SuperTour Finals, the 6k hill climb pursuit up Sugar Bowl’s Mt. Disney. Liz Stephen and Kris Freeman were the fastest climbers while Erik Bjornsen and Liz Stephen won the overall SuperTour Finals Titles.
Liz Stephen won the women’s hill climb, making up a 2:26 minute deficit and taking the SuperTour Finals Title after Kikkan Randall went off course. Jessie Diggins was 2nd in the climb, and former farm team racer Chelsea Holmes took 3rd. For the men Kris Freeman won the climb, Brian Gregg was 2nd, and Tad Elliot took 3rd.
Liz Stephen (Burke Mountain Academy/USST) overcame a 2:26 minute deficit in Monday’s hill-climb pursuit, for the overall SuperTour Finals title in 30:23.7. Randall (APU/USST) went off course briefly after the halfway point of the climb, but skied back to go up the correct route for second overall (31:02.0), ahead of Sadie Bjornsen (APU/USST) who was third (31:58.9). Erik Bjornsen (APU/USST) held his lead over Kris Freeman (Maine Winter Sports Center/USST) to win the SuperTour Finals title in 25:28. Freeman was second in 25:48.5, and Mikey Sinnott (SVSEF) placed third (26:35.9) in the overall SuperTour Finals. The white bib for the best young skier, U23, went to Erik Bjornsen who also won the yellow best overall bib along with Jessie Diggins, and the the green best sprinter bib along with Kikkan Randall. Kris Freeman and Liz Stephen won the polka-dot best climber bibs. The NNF Cup went to the APU Nordic Ski Team.
