Far West Nordic would like to announce the naming of it’s Senior “Farm Team” for 2010-2011.
Elias Bucher -UNR Winter Sports Club, Gus Johnson-UNR Winter Sports Club, Chelsea Holmes-Sugarbowl Academy, Matt Gelso-Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation, Kara LaPoint-Truckee, and Michael Collins-Truckee/Tahoe.
These athletes will be representing our grassroots attempt at producing top quality training, racing, and cross country skiing environment in the Far West Division. They will be working closely within the divisional Ski Clubs by volunteering and helping out at Junior practices. This is especially important for the perpetual motivation and development of our Junior skiers. They will also help boost the quality of Master skiing in our area by providing help with clinics/coaching and race/training day competition.
We are pleased to welcome them all to our team. Please stay tuned to the Far West Farm Team page for blog updates from the athletes. Please support them and cheer on their efforts when you see them out and about.
Far West Senior Team updates and thoughts on racing and training throughout the year as well as technique ideas (and videos!) and equipment and race-preparation info they hope you’ll find helpful.
I'm into everything that has to do with sports. I like to ski, play soccer and anything outdoors. learned how to ski in the beautiful mountains of Switzerland and came over to the US to join the UNR Ski Team in 2008. Now I'm proud to represent the Far West Nordic Farm Team this season and can't wait to get on Snow!
I am running, skiing, and exploring the Sierra Nevada. I first learned to ski at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. After earning a bachelor's degree in chemistry, I returned to Los Angeles to work for two fire seasons on the Little Tujunga Hotshot Crew (USFS). This is my second winter in Tahoe.
Hi. I'm 23, live in Reno, NV and am studying for a masters degree in hydrology at the UNR graduate school. I competed in three NCAA skiing championships for Colby College from 2008 to 2011, where I majored in geology. Originally from Boise, Idaho, I'm pumped to be back in the West and ready to get in some excellent skiing and racing in the Sierras. I like mountain biking, running, eating salmon, walking on my hands, dumpster-diving, and playing guitar.

Hello hello! I am stoked to be on the Far West Farm Team this year. I grew up here in beautiful Truckee, Ca. and am a proud product of the Far West junior teams. I learned to ski and to love skiing here in these mountains, so it was only fitting that I come back to fuel my passion for the sport. After attending the University of Denver for three years, I transferred to the University of Nevada where I finished my NCAA skiing career and also threw in a year of running. Today, I am a triathlete, runner and as always, a skier. I am also a journalist with a passion for writing, story-telling and interacting. I love living and playing in the mountians with my dog Levi, and will change the world one day... one story at a time.
