Now that the Olympics are underway and will be over before we know it, this might be just the time to be thinking about Masters World Cup 2011 at Sovereign Lakes Cross Country (next to Silver Silver Star) in Vernon, British Columbia. This event will not be in North America again for a long time, and since it is relatively close, it could well be a great opportunity for a lot of Far West members to go.
Here's the website with all information about the venue, dates and race schedules, etc. at Sovereign Lakes and you can email them with any questions: http://www.mwc2011.com/
John Downing of American Cross Country Skiers will be providing a lot of information as we go along; membership in AXCS will be required, and all race entries will go through JD, as he is the USA representative for all Masters World Cup events - check his website for upcoming details: http://www.xcskiworld.com.
Although it's just over a year away, accommodation reservations will be taken exactly one year in advance, and therefore anyone interested in going might want to make a reservation as the best housing will go fast as apparently there has been great interest in this event from all over the world.
This appears to be one of best websites for selecting accommodation at Silver Star, which is adjacent to Sovereign Lakes Cross Country where the races will be held, rather than the town of Vernon which is a 25 minute drive down the mountain. However, it should be noted that housing will likely be more reasonable in Vernon.
You can see Silver Star housing here: http://www.staraccom.com/cms/lang-en/vacation-homes/vacation-home-list.html
Contact for the housing is: http://www.staraccom.com/cms/lang-en/contact.html
If you want to go - don't delay Masters World Cup 2011 will be here before you know it!
