Ted Beauchamp  Kirkeby Full
Amanda Kirkeby, 2015 Recipient

This scholarship fund was established in 1995 by the Beauchamp family and the Far West Nordic Ski Association in memory of Ted Beauchamp, a long time supporter of cross country skiing and a dedicated member of the Far West board of directors. Ted had a deep love for the outdoors and had a passion for nordic skiing, which he passed on to others. Ted taught and coached many local youths and helped pass on some of his love for skiing to them. He was always there to volunteer for any event and to help with the coaching at the races. Ted’s two children, James and Emily, both have been highly successful participants in cross country ski racing in the Far West and Ted ‘s wife, Sue, has been an active supporter of the Far West Nordic Ski Association.

The Scholarship Fund of $300 per recipient is set up to help a different individual each year who shows a deep love for nordic skiing, is a dedicated athlete who has the desire and potential to compete at the national level, and may have some financial need. Amanda Kirkeby was awarded the Ted Beauchamp Scholarship for 2015.

Amanda is a senior at Mammoth High School, and has been racing at National and Regional Competitions for Far West Nordic for over 5 years, at a very high level. She has also been a member of the Far West Nordic Academic Team since it was initiated in 2012.

“Cross country skiing is my passion. There are no words to describe the feeling I get from skiing across a fresh groomed trail on a crisp, blue-bird day or when I cross the finish line after a race. For me, it is not about the glory of standing on the podium after a win that keeps me skiing every day. It’s my love for the sport itself and the kind, dedicated people that share my love of cross country skiing. Every time I am out on skis or surrounded by cross country skiers, I cannot contain my smile.”

Amanda plans on using her scholarship to pursue her goals of continuing to cross country ski race in college, and hopes to one day even make the U.S. Ski Team. The scholarship monetary award is 300 dollars, but more importantly is one of the highest honors that a junior Nordic ski racer can achieve in the Far West Division.

The Ted Beauchamp Scholarship was set up in 1995 to honor the memory of long time Far West Nordic Board member Ted Beauchamp. Ted gave tirelessly to help kids excel in the sport he loved and Amanda’s efforts in skiing honor Ted’s name. For more information on the Ted Beauchamp Scholarship, CLICK HERE.
