JUNIOR CAMPS & TRIPS
WINTER 2014-2015 TRIPS
Soldier Hollow Super JNQ
January 28 – February 1, 2015
Signup Deadline: Midnight, January 19, 2015
This is one of our most anticipated trips of the year for our juniors. We will travel to the trails of Soldier Hollow, Utah for their “SUPER JNQ” event, where hundreds of Juniors from all over the West converge for some incredibly fun and challenging racing.
The trip cost will include all transportation, lodging, food, coaching, wax and support, race entries, trail passes.
Lodging: will be in a beautiful, spacious house, along with some extra condominium units, but be prepared that if we get the anticipated numbers for this trip, we may need some to bring pads and sleeping bags. We’ll know the week before the trip if this is the case.
Food: The incomparable Johannes! has agreed to feed your hungry souls.
Coaching: Will include luminaries such as Jeff Schloss, Caitlin Bernstein, Gustavo Johnson, Nancy Fiddler, Mary ellen Benier, and more to be named. We will drive partway on Wednesday afternoon/evening, finish the trip on Thursday morning, and then view the course on Thursday afternoon. Friday will be the Freestyle Sprint, and Saturday the Classic Distance Race. Both races are JUNIOR NATIONAL QUALIFIERS for Far West Nordic skiers.
This trip is open to SECOND YEAR U-14 juniors and older. U-14’s will be encouraged to race the shorter distance available, unless they are attempting to qualify for the Far West Nordic Junior Team for 2015.
The trip will leave Truckee High School on Wednesday afternoon, January 28 (time still to be determined), and athletes will be responsible for their own dinner on the road. We will stay in a motel along the way on Wednesday night. (Mammoth athletes and coaches will meet us along the way.)
Thursday morning we will head to Midway, Utah to check out the trails at Soldier Hollow. Friday and Saturday will feature racing against the finest nordic skiers in the entire Western United States. Saturday afternoon is reserved for Tubing or Crater-Swimming (bring some extra $$), or just hanging out. These are very competitive races for U14 athletes all the way up to U20. Basically, the entire Western United States top juniors all converge on Soldier Hollow for this weekend.
Note that we will be staying in residential housing for this trip, and bed space may need to be shared, or athletes can bring an air bed/pad and bag, as there is ample floor space.
Whether you’re an elite Junior Olympian or a young, first-time (serious) racer, this is an important trip for junior skiers (13 and over by 12/31/14).
We will depart for return on Sunday morning, February 1, arriving in the early evening back in Truckee or Mammoth.
These races are two of our Far West JNQs:
January 30, 2015 Super JNQ Freestyle Sprint (Shorter Mass start races for U14’s)
January 31, 2015 Super JNQ Classic Distance 15km/10km/5km (3km Mass Start for U14)
The Super JNQ is the biggest Junior XC event in the West (including Junior Nationals!)
