On September 1st John Campbell, an avid xc skier and accomplished triathlete known to many Far West athletes, went for a mountain bike ride on trails near his Truckee home. When he did not return, Hedda Anya organized a search. An amazing group was mobilized with the help of June Lane. Mitch Dion, Mark Nadell, Jeff Schloss, Beth Thomas, Joe Dengler, Steve and Andrea Miller, all stalwart Far West members, managed to locate him in the dark, get help, and he was ultimately airlifted to Renown ICU where he currently remains. This marathon will be John’s toughest.

If you’d like to send a card or note, please do so to:
John Campbell, P.O. Box 9194, Truckee, CA 96162.
Hedda has been at his side, and John’s children and sister have been coming and going along with a few close friends.
Please think positively for John, and perhaps he can sense our vibes, and come through this terrible ordeal.
Keeping John and Hedda in my thoughts — lots of great memories skiing with John at the ASC masters classes, breaking a binding while doing a drill with John, watching John break a skate ski over “rollers”, and hanging with him at the Sierra Nordic Relays last year. My favorite memory is the Great Race finish 2 years ago when he went down on the slush at the finish, with Nancy finishing on top of him (hi Nancy, uhhh hi John . . . gee that’s my wife on top of you there). Life is fragile — it’s amazing how everything can change in an instant.
