Far West Nordic is pleased to announce that selections are now open for the 2014-2015 Far West Nordic Academic Team. Starting in 2012, Far West Nordic began recognizing high school students in Far West Nordic who have been high achieving not only on the snow, but also in the classroom. We know all of you Far West Nordic juniors spend so many hours training, but we want to be sure you are recognized for your academic achievements as well.
In the middle of August, Far West Nordic will have completed all of it’s Summer Camps and Trips for 2014. It’s been an incredibly successful year for our Junior athletes. We began with the ever-popular LAKE TAHOE BLISS CAMP in late June, where we had 22 young Nordic skiers hiking, running, kayaking, swimming, beach skiing, and rollerskiing. Also in June was the USSA Western Regional Elite Group camp in Park City, where a number of our higher-end athletes trained with skiers from all over the Western U.S. While our traditional June Lake training camp didn’t take place this summer, we hope that it will return in 2015. In the meantime in late July, 5 of our top U-16 athletes traveled to Jackson Hole, Wyoming to train with the countries best. And finally, a group of juniors, college athletes, and an Elite Team member traveled to the Northern California Coast for some low-elevation, high-intensity training near Arcata, California. Our athletes are getting psyched for winter!
The first annual GIRLS’ DAY at Tahoe XC was a huge success, with young female athletes learning, training, and having fun with coaches and role models. Designed after the popular Fast & Female program, there were over a dozen participants rollerskiing, strength training, and dancing. Thanks to Wilson Dippo, Valli and Kevin Murnane at TXC, and coaches Anja Gruber, Caitlin Bernstein, Britta Clark, Hallie Grossman, Heather Mooney, and Mary ellen Benier, with peer helpers Savanna Blide, Hannah Halvorsen and Bria Riggs. The June Lake Camp is a Far West classic. This is the longest-running Nordic training camp in the division. It is both super fun and extremely motivating for just about any Junior athlete, whether you’re an experienced racer or an up-and-coming young competitor. Based out of (where else?) beautiful June Lake in the Eastern Sierra. Activities will include some challenging & scenic runs, great roller skiing on spectacular roads, and also an incredible hike to the top of a 13,000+ ft. peak, where you will truly feel “on top of the world.” Combined with traditional fun games, swimming, and great camaraderie, the June Lake Camp is the one must-do training session of the summer.
Open to all Far West juniors age 13-19. A super fun and motivating camp for the ‘old hands” to the ‘newbies’. Camp consists of amazing hiking, rollerskiing, sightseeing, and technique work.

PLEASE NOTE: Our End-of-the-Season Party for Far West Nordic has been moved!
This is a potluck, and you should bring your own utensils, plates and a cup. Far West will provide water and lemonade. If you want something stronger, you should BYOB.
There will be opportunities for basketball and ping pong, but you’re probably best leaving your kayaks and SUP’s at home.
This party is open to Far West Nordic juniors and their families, elite team, masters, and members. Spread the word.
The “Devo” and “Comp” programs comprise of a super FUN summer full of multiple activities for athletes ages 11-19. Both levels have a strong focus on preparation for a great season of cross country skiing and racing. The head coach will lead athletes in activities that combine roller skiing, hiking, running, bounding, strength conditioning, agility and other fun activities such as mountain biking, laser biathlon, soccer, and Frisbee. TCCSEA has created a program that combines activities and allows younger as well as more mature athletes to develop skills that are advantageous for higher level athletic endeavors such as Nordic Skiing, Downhill Skiing, XC Running, Mt Biking, and more. Participants should be motivated to improve fitness and technique while having fun. The hope is to help develop fast skiers for the upcoming ski season and create lifelong patterns of health and fitness through the sport of cross country skiing.
