Junior Nordic Girls:  This day will be led by the phenomenal group of women training in the Truckee/ Tahoe area who are excited to share their stories, expertise, and passion for nordic skiing. Designed for young female athletes from 11 to 14 years old, you should come prepared to do a little rollerskiing, a lot of dancing, and with plenty of questions for the elite women skiers. Older Juniors are welcome to come as well, as participants or helpers. Girls Only! (Wearing pink is highly recommended.)

Venue Change for End of the Season Party

PLEASE NOTE: Our End-of-the-Season Party for Far West Nordic has been moved!

fw_logo-small06The end-of-season awards and party will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2014 from 1-4 pm at the Rideout Community Center on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe, 740 Timberland Lane, Tahoe City, CA  96145.

This is a potluck, and you should bring your own utensils, plates and a cup.  Far West will provide water and lemonade.  If you want something stronger, you should BYOB.

There will be opportunities for basketball and ping pong, but you’re probably best leaving your kayaks and SUP’s at home.

This party is open to Far West Nordic juniors and their families, elite team, masters, and members.  Spread the word.

fw_logo-small06The Far West Nordic Annual Meeting and the Annual Election of Directors and Officers will be held Monday, May 12, 2014 at the Truckee River Winery (11467 Brockway Road, Truckee CA). Appetizers and wine and an informal get together from 5:30 pm followed by the board meeting and annual election of directors and officers at 6:30 pm. Come meet the Far West Nordic directors, officers, and committee members. Learn how you can get involved and help shape the future of Far West Nordic. 

WE WANT YOU!! Either as a Board Member, or key volunteer, or Committee Chair, we would love to take advantage of your energy and ideas how to make things better in the Nordic world. We need representatives from all walks of the skiing community, parents of junior athletes, racers, and recreational skiers. Board members and committee members are desired from all regions (Mammoth, South Lake, Bay area, etc.).

Elite Team Dinner

The Far West Elite Team is hosting a plated dinner at the Tahoe Cross Country Yurt Saturday April 12th at 6:00 p.m. Please join us as we wrap up the most successful season the Far West Elite Team has ever had and look forward to another great year. A delicious dinner will be served by the Elite Team in their finest attire. As part of a delicious meal, we will have a meat and a vegetarian entree options and are happy to accommodate other dietary restrictions if informed ahead of time. Cost will be 40$ a plate and capped at 40 seats due to space. Squaw Valley Mountain Run / Hike
Saturday August 3, 2013
Starting at the base of Squaw Valley USA (6200’) the course climbs the 3.6 mile mountain run to High Camp (8200’) where awards, raffle, music refreshments & beer are provided. RUN, HIKE or let the cable car do the 2000 foot elevation gain & participate in the beautiful 3 mile FLOWER WALK on easy rolling terrain. All participants in the run / hike and flower walk will be entered in the raffle for some great prizes.

Kris Freeman National Distance Champion

mens50kKris Freeman (Maine Winter Sports Center/USST) broke away on the last 10k lap to win Thursday’s 50 k classic mass start in 2:24:52.8, Andy Newell (SMST2/USST) was second at 2:25:46.4  and Norwegian Einar Ulsund (University of Utah) was third at 2:26:15.5.

Farm Team racers Spencer Eusden was 28th and  Wyatt Fereday 33rd, and Far West master Peter Mayfield was 41st.
Far West junior Patrick McElravey was 3rd in the Mens’ 20k, Peter Holmes 7th, Brandon Herhusky 15th. Read more
