Kevin Murnane

murnaneNordic Friends,

Our community lost a wonderful person long before his time on February 24th. Kevin Murnane was one of the driving forces behind the Tahoe Cross Country Ski Education Foundation and has been the manager of the Tahoe Cross Country Ski Area for many years. Tahoe and Truckee’s loss, especially for those of us involved with the cross country ski community, will be huge.

An bank account set up to accept donations for his wife Valli, and his 2 children, has been established at the U.S. Bank branch in Tahoe City. Donations for the family can be made in person at that branch. All contributions will go directly to benefit Valli and the kids.

For information on how to directly transfer funds to this account, please contact Rachel Crus at rachel@cruslaw.com.

Racing, Venue Changes, and Snow Searching…

asc-pacos-race-2015_thomas-beth3Even though we’re all still waiting for some more white stuff in the Sierra Nevada, Far West Nordic Racing has been going strong! The Tannenbaum, the Snowshoe Thompson, Paco’s Freestyle, Lakes Basin, the Skogsloppet, and all the CNISSF races (thanks to Auburn Ski Club) have all been successful. But change is in the air:

MAMMOTH BIATHLON CANCELED:
A number of factors, including the current low snow levels at the Biathlon site, has prompted ESNSA to cancel this year’s event.

ALPENGLOW FREESTYLE IS CANCELED:
Due to the dearth of snow in the Tahoe Basin, the Alpenglow Race at Tahoe Cross Country, slated for January 25, has been canceled.

SIERRA SKOGSLOPPET MOVED TO AUBURN SKI CLUB
Because of low snow, January 19th’s Skøgsloppet Race will be held at Auburn Ski Club. A important benefit for the Truckee Schools’ Nordic Ski Teams, this is traditionally a very fun race for masters and juniors alike. It’s also a JNQ for the kids, plus a Fischer Cup and Masters Challenge race.

CNISSF TRUCKEE SPRINTS ALSO AT ASC
In addition to the Skogs, the 3rd CNISSF race of the season on January 23rd has been moved to Auburn Ski Club. Ostensibly down at Truckee High’s Surprise Stadium, ASC has often hosted this race and will once again.

Come out and race!
