Are YOU Tough Enough for The Billy Dutton Uphill?

Far West Nordic is so excited for the Billy Dutton Uphill on Sunday, April 14th! Pre-registration is still available. We would like to take a moment to thank Squaw Valley USA for making this event possible. The businesses and people who sponsor this event and make donations each year to help assure its success mean so much to us! We want to take a moment to let you know in advance of some of the amazing raffle and silent auction prizes we are preparing to share with our race participants.

Our silent auction will feature some amazing items including art photography from Olaf Carmel Fine Art Gallery, a beautiful pair of Madshus Annum Touring Skis from Alpenglow, a Tour of Tahoe City Fine Dining including gift certificates from Sunnyside, Blue Agave and River Ranch, four rounds of gold with a golf cart from the Resort at Squaw Creek, a gift basket and certificate from White Buffalo, a Mac Fishing Charter donated by the Daniels family, Maui Jim sunglasses, Tahoe Posters mounted artwork, granite from Alpine Stone Works, Squaw Valley Fine Dining offerings from Plumpjack, Mamasake and Le Chamois, and great touring and hydration packs from Salomon offered by Bill Sterling. We have also received great raffle prizes from Bridgetender, Auburn Ski Club, Steamer’s, Tahoe Dave’s, Fireside Pizza, Uncorked, Moody’s, Pete & Peter’s, Snohoe, Chevron, Jake’s on the Lake, Truckee Bagel, Willard’s Sport Shop, Pianeta, Tahoe XC, Salomon, Squaw Valley, Wild Cherries, and Tahoe Donner XC . Thank you to the Yale family for your generosity and to Gizdich Ranch for providing fresh olallieberry juice to our racers!

Once a year, Squaw Valley USA hosts a very special event: participants start at the base of KT-22 and go UP the Mountain Run to High Camp. Ski it, skin it, run it, snowshoe or hike, whatever works for you (sorry, no motors or jet packs).
The Billy Dutton Uphill is a unique race with a tough 2000 ft. of climbing over the 3.2 mile course. A fun challenge for recreational athletes, runners, snowshoers, XC and backcountry skiers, or anyone who loves a good climb. Come and test yourself in this beautiful mountain setting!

UPHILL SKIERS, RUNNERS, AND SHOWSHOERS

Billy was an athlete with extraordinary endurance, equally famous for his great smile as he was for his daily (!) routine of skiing UP the Mountain Run on classic skis. As one of the founders of Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue, Billy's legacy lives on today. The Billy Dutton Uphill commemorates Billy's life and his many contributions to our community.

Squaw Valley's original "run what ya brung" uphill race, an answer to the famous Chinese Downhill of the 70's, starts at the base of KT-22. The course takes you UP the Mountain Run, then over to the top of Shirley Lake and finally ends after a brief downhill at High Camp. The course climbs 2000 vertical feet over 3.2 miles. There are ski and run/snowshoe divisions.

All proceeds from the Billy Dutton Uphill go to benefit Far West Nordic's juniors program.
