This week marks the start of the Summer Program for collegiate student-athletes. Most athletes have arrived at this point, with a couple more on the way in the coming weeks.
It’s exciting to get rolling with the college group for the 3rd summer in a row. I started this program in the spring of 2011 for a lot of reasons, but with no idea how it would turn out. We had 11 athletes that first summer, and just 1 local collegiate skier. Now, we have a good mix of local athletes and those who have travelled from far and wide. For all of them, it is a great opportunity to train alongside like-minded people: student-athletes looking for a way to take the next step in their skiing.
There are few better places to get out the door and get training. Here in the Truckee-Tahoe area, it is easy. It is easy because its sunny just about every day. Easy because there are miles and miles of incredible trails. Easy because there is varied and challenging rollerskiing. And most of all, easy because it is a great and fun group to be part of.
Whether it is the weekly group barbecues, going to music in the park, getting after during a weekend OD, or a post-training lunch at Tacos Jaliscos, this group bonds quickly. They immerse themselves in life here and its hard not to have fun doing it. Let’s go.
More from the student-athletes will be up on the blog soon!
