SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS
FAR WEST HAS GRANTS AVAILABLE TO SUPPORT SKI INITIATIVES
Far West Nordic Ski Education Association has a limited amount of money available to support XC ski clubs and community oriented ski projects. Any non-profit organization within the Far West geographic area of California, Nevada, and Arizona, is welcome to submit a grant request. Grant requests will be reviewed by the Far West Nordic Board of Directors. Grant applications will be judged based on potential benefits to local ski communities, a demonstrated specific need for the funds, and availability of Far West Resources. In the past, grants have gone to help create new ski clubs, to the purchase of skis for junior ski programs, to Ski For Light blind skier programs, and many other worthy projects. Grant requests can be mailed to Far West Nordic, PO Box 10046, Truckee, California, 96162 or emailed to email@example.com.
This scholarship fund was established by the Beauchamp family and the Far West Nordic Ski Association in memory of Ted Beauchamp, a long time supporter of cross country skiing and a dedicated member of the Far West board of directors. Ted had a deep love for the outdoors and had a passion for nordic skiing, which he passed on to others. Ted taught and coached many local youths and helped pass on some of his love for skiing to them. He was always there to volunteer for any event and to help with the coaching at the races. Ted’s two children, James and Emily, both have been highly successful participants in cross country ski racing in the Far West and Ted ‘s wife, Sue, has been an active supporter of the Far West Nordic Ski Association. Go to the Ted Beauchamp Scholarship for more information and to read about recent recipients of the scholarship.
BEN GRASSESCHI COACHING SCHOLARSHIP
Ben Grasseschi was the long-time Head Coach of both Far West Nordic and Auburn Ski Club Nordic teams. He brought a fun vote to coaching that made everyone he worked with happy and often laughing. Additionally, he lead the way in developing some of Far West’s best athletes, including Matthew Gelso, joanne Reid, Russell Kennedy, and Hannah Halvorsen.
Ben was also the mastermind behind creating the Far West Elite Team, and saw the need for the Association to bridge the gap between our successful junior programs and our thriving Masters programs, and he worked hard to make the Elite Team a reality.
Far West Nordic has established this Scholarship to aid future, up-and-coming coaches with financial aid to allow them to continue to rise in the sport.
Every year Far West donates to the National Nordic Foundation for the Scandinavian Cup Trip.
“NNF is a backbone for the developement of world class skiers in the United States. Since the creation of NNF, young American skiers have recorded historic finishes, and are continuing to break down the barriers toward winning Olympic medals in cross-country skiing.” -Kikkan Randall
