Alpenglow 2km, 5km, and 10km running/hiking/walking Event

Alpenglow-Sports-LogoThe folks at Alpenglow and Tahoe XC are excited for Summer! So much so that they are going to “guarantee” that it will snow soon by hosting a Running Race instead of the Alpenglow 20km.

So, at this time, the ski race is ‘off’ and Alpenglow and TXC will be hosting the Alpenglow 2km, 5km, and 10km running/hiking/walking Event on Sunday, 26 January. Please note: Phun is mandatory and “Make it Snow” costumes are encouraged. BBQ and Awards to follow at TXC as usual.

Race start at 10am with 2km and 5km laps.

Please plan to attend and bring all your friends. If we cannot ski we may as well embrace the conditions!

*Please note, if it does happen to snow enough to host the ski race at the last minute they will do so on a course that best matches the conditions and terrain available.

  • February 5-9, 2014
  • Cost: $495
  • Open to all Far West athletes age 13 or older (as of December 31, 2013) wishing for top-notch racing and ski travel experience.
  • Sign-up Deadline: January 26th -firm! Sign Up Early, as this trip will Fill Up Quickly!

This is one of the most anticipated trips of the year for the Juniors. It combines hard, extremely competitive racing on the trails of the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics in Soldier Hollow with a really fun excursion to Utah. We will leave on Wednesday afternoon after school (athletes will be responsible for their own dinner on the road), a quick stay-over in eastern Nevada, and then head to Midway, Utah to check out the trails. Friday and Saturday will feature racing against the finest nordic skiers in the entire Western United States.  Saturday afternoon is reserved for Tubing or Crater-Swimming (bring some extra $$), or just hanging out. Return is early Sunday morning, back in Truckee or Mammoth by early evening. There are very competitive races for U14 athletes all the way up to U20. Basically, the entire Western United States top juniors all converge on Soldier Hollow for this weekend.

Note that we will be staying in residential housing for this trip, and bed space will either need to be shared, or athletes can bring an air bed/pad and bag, as there is ample floor space.

Whether you’re an elite Junior Olympian or a young, first-time (serious) racer, this is an important trip for junior skiers (13 and over).

Coaches: Mark Nadell, Jeff Schloss, Holly Whitney, Gus Johnson, Nancy Fiddler (or Bryce Tiernan), Ambrose Tuscano, Maryellen Benier
Food Services: The Incomparable Linda and David Dore

This year these races are two of our Far West JNQs:
February 7, 2014  Super JNQ Classic Sprint (2 km. Mass start for U14)s
February 8, 2014  Super JNQ Freestyle  15km/10km/5km (3km Mass Start for U14)

The Super JNQ is the biggest Junior XC event in the West.
