TCCSEA Junior Devo Program gets Far West Nordic Grant

devoFar West Nordic’s board of directors approved a $1000 grant for TCCSEA Junior Development program. The TCCSEA Junior Development Program is an early development program for cross-country ski racing. The goal of the program is to introduce and develop cross-country ski skills, promote general fitness, and create a love of the sport to last a lifetime. The grant will go towards providing a year-round program that will bridge the training gaps between their Strider Glider program and the nordic school teams. This program is designed to both complement the current school nordic team’s training schedule by offering athletes high quality year-round nordic coaching within a more intimate group size and to assist nordic athletes in reaching the next level in their skiing.

The Classic Technique Clinic  may be held on an alternate date in March.
The decision will be announced on March 25th if necessary.

Back by popular demand is our classic ski clinic. This year it will be led by renowned Far West coach and Olympian Glenn Jobe. Glenn was an Olympic Biathlete in the 1980 Olympic Games, was the 1981 National Biathlon 20 km champion, as well as a former Far West Nordic head coach.  He was the founder of both the Kirkwood and Tahoe Donner Nordic centers and has been coaching Far West Junior skiers since 1977.

We’re scheduling this clinic before the Tahoe Rim Tour to give Far West members time to improve their classic techniques and get “on-course” instruction from one of Tahoe’s best classic skiers. This clinic is geared to intermediate and advanced classic skiers looking to improve their skills and race performance. This clinic will include 2 hours of “on snow” time where Glenn will review various aspects of how you classic ski, help you correct bad habits, and identify opportunities for improving your skiing.

NNF $50,000 Matching Challenge Grant

nnf-logo2Every skier loves a challenge. It isn’t long in this sport before someone learns that you can’t sit back and hope something happens, you have to work hard, you have to make. it. happen.
This year is no exception. There’s no free pass to pushing skiing forward. That’s why a group of anonymous donors, a collection of people who love skiing, who are compelled to see our scene improve have come together to challenge the junior nordic community with a large matching grant. That’s why it’s time for junior skiers to step it up big time.
From NOW until the END of the drive, the challenge is out to the junior skiing community. It’s called a matching challenge, but it is a lopsided match in favor of skiing.
If the junior ski community can raise $15,000, challenge match grant donors will kick down $50,000. (Seems like a good deal, no?)
Visit the Far West Nordic Team page and donate.
